I am mainly interested in your ability to reconstruct Descartes’ arguments in your own words as clearly and precisely as possible. Essentially, you are being asked to summarize and critically evaluate a portion of the Meditations. Make sure to include: • an appropriate, informative title • a clear, argumentative thesis (typically located in an introductory paragraph) • properly formatted foot/endnotes (your choice, or just internal citation) • a list of works cited—even if you only use the Meditations. This is not a research essay, so you only need the primary text. In the text, Descartes provides several arguments for God’s existence. First, explain why Descartes thinks he has to prove God’s existence. Next, pick either one of the two arguments from the third “meditation” and explain how it works. Does it succeed or not? Does Descartes ultimately manage to overcome the problem of solipsism?
